Whilst researching turn-tables, I got side-tracked and came across Deviate by German DJ, Mauel Tur and D Play.  And it’s awesome.

Ok, so it doesn’t really do very much, but that’s exactly the reason i love it.  It’s the perfect (but minimal) deep house track that’s going to lend itself very well to my mixing.  It might have been released just over a year ago but this one is on my list of sundrenched balearic hits to spin for ’09.  Play it loud.

Unfortunately, i can’t remember the YouTube member’s name who incidentally led me to finding Deviate via another amazing Manuel Tur track; Acorado.  I’d like to say thanks all the same for getting back to me so quickly with the details for Acorado and for introducing me to the superb sounds of Manuel Tur.

August And Everything AfterNormally, this kind of genre of music (soft rock?) would go straight in one ear and out the other, but Perfect Blue Buildings by Counting Crows couldn’t be a more beautiful track.

It reminds me of the transitional period when i moved from Edinburgh to London, a whopping seven years ago.  A time when although I guess things were to change immensely; was really carefree.  I’d spent the six months prior to moving travelling up and down to London and to a degree, The Counting Crows and the album August And Everything After became the soundtrack to my travels.

Anyway, the sun is shining on a glorious bank holiday weekend and with tomorrow off, i’m going back to bed accompanied with this little track that’s the perfect addition to my Sunday soundtrack.

The Sunday Soundtrack so far:

1. Georg Levin – Leisure Suit

2. Pryda – Armed

3. Counting Crows - Perfect Blue Buildings

Top of the crops

May 17, 2009

Drop and give me 20 – the crop top is back.

I’d read it in the magazines and seen it creeping into a few in shops.  The latest thing to be littering the high street is indeed the return of the 80s crop top.

T-shirt, vest, 50s rockabilly tie-hem shirt, striped or ditsy; make like Daisy Lowe at the Coachella festival and don a cut-off top (with unfortunately not a place in sight to hide that winter ‘padding’).

Having been spotting a few trends over the weekend for my friends in LA, River Island, Topshop and Primark are backing the mid-driff T hard, not to mention ASOS.  So if you’re the owner of a washboard stomach or have an ability to make like Britney (cramming in over 200 crunches a day) make sure you invest in the shape to be seen in.

For me, i think this is one trend i’ll leave to the likes of Mischa Barton, Cheryl Cole and anyone who is lucky (and young) enough to own abs of steel.

I was thinking it was probably about time I added to Trackback #1 just as ‘Coldwater Music’ by Aim popped up on my shuffle.  Enter Trackback #2.

It’s a track that reminds me of a couple of years ago.  Not quite as long ago as number one on the list, Unkle’s amazing ‘Lonely Soul’ and oddly enough, both of them hold a memory of two seperate past boyfriends purely by chance (and for very different reasons).

If you haven’t heard Coldwater Music, what are you waiting for?  It’s a cool little track produced by the Brit behind the Aim collective; Andy Furness.  A bit jazz, a bit funk, electronic and a slathering of hip-hop as its under pinning makes Coldwater Music the stand out track on the 1997 album of the same name.  However, don’t let it fool you into thinking of watching them live.  As great as they’re music is, they’re not particularly an act of ‘interest’ as i found out at their less than memorable gig in, well, i can’t even remember the venue.  A dodgy YouTube video of their performance at Fruitstock ’06 is testament that you’re probably better off sticking to listening to these guys at home.

Minus the disappointing gig, the awesome chill-out track that is Coldwater Music never fails to raise a smile on my face and will remind me for years to come of a night involving a bottle of Sambuca, two awkward dances and a few other reasons i’ll leave purely to your imagination.

Enjoy.

Baggy T's in all shapes and sizes & tight mini's - how did i ever underestimate them?Ransacking my wardrobe for something new and a combo never worn, I went retro on Friday and pulled out an old black mini skirt which I thought had seen better days.

Little did i know when pairing it with my much loved (and probably a bit over worn) super-size wolf T-shirt, that a new uniform would be born.

Having completely underestimated the value of a humble T and basic mini skirt, I’ve not only lived in the surprisingly very now combo (interchanging of course) for almost a week but made it my new staple.  I simply can’t get enough.

The best thing is, any T-shirt goes.  If only a had a significant other’s drawer to raid I could combine one of my favourite past times – stealing boyfriend’s T’s – with my collection of minis.  Since Friday, I’ve struck gold once more with the discovery of a stretch denim mini with diagonal zip.  Denim?  Mini?  Zip?  Three trends in one; this has got to be good and at a recession-busting £5, I can almost see you go green.

So there you have it, I can’t quite believe i underestimated the power or two timeless basics.  Nor can I wait to loot my next suiters T-shirt drawer.

I will never dismiss ransacking the back of a wardrobe again.
