Weeknotes 16 June, 2023

I started today at the gym and then with my first sea swim of the year. Anndddd it’s Friday. Can I bottle this “pumped and achieving” vibe, please? (I know I’ll need some in future). Tangent over, here’s how work went this week.

Building a reusable copy library. It’s annoying when you can’t find something you just wrote and need again. And while I’m using Figma plug-ins to help me, that doesn’t really help others. So I’m building a copy library in Figma with some basic reusable pieces of copy. My plan is to build the copy into the Design System so it’s even easier to reuse it. Then it’s time for sharing, education, and coaching.

Planning a ways of working session. That’s WOW in Figma. We use pages, branches, and Ditto Words in our team – and every person kinda uses them differently. I knew we needed to have a convo around how we’re setting up files. A massive project then highlighted how much we need to prioritise that chat. I’m wondering if it’d be good to have help from a neutral facilitator or be the facilitator. Though due to the time it could take to find a willing volunteer, it’ll likely be me donning the facilitator hat.

Content designing a multi-product homepage and getting my sketch on. I joined a few colleagues to ideate for a new software homepage and loved it. So many great ideas from everyone. And, I want to improve my sketching skills so this was really useful. 

Flexing creative muscles in a brand awareness exercise. Every couple of weeks we as a design team run a creative session. We choose a brief, work on the brief, then come back to discuss our designs – all in an hour. I love this so much. It’s a great way to still be creative in a busy, deliverables-minded business. This week we created some flyers and discount vouchers for my side hustle. Thank you so much to those who joined in!
