Weeknotes 17 May, 2024

This week has been a lot of setting things up. In the past I’ve tended to start a task and see it through before starting another. I’ve tried this rather than spinning many plates at once to manage stress and overwhelm.

There’s a down side to this. When a task has dependencies on other teams (most of my tasks do), waiting for replies can then block a task. With this in mind it makes sense to kick off multiple tasks off at once. Start them, ask questions, wait for replies – while attending to other tasks. It sounds simple and obvious. It is. Though I do believe it’s always good to try other ways of working.

The key to getting this right, I think, is scheduling following up time. Time that works for me, rather than picking up replies as and when they come. That’s disruptive and can trigger stress.

Pushing forward with the content guidance. The wiki I’ve been working on for a few weeks. The deadline is the end of Q2 and we’re sprinting towards that at a petrifying pace.

More prototyping for roles and permissions. Readying it for testing. I’m looking forward to feedback on the terminology we’re using for different users.
