Latenotes 2 July, 2024

Last week’s update didn’t happen on Friday. I’m forgiving myself and embracing the cliché that, “It’s never too late” (to write your Weeknotes).

Last week went a bit like this…

Setting up more copy testing. We’re doing more and more testing. Terminology stuff. We didn’t test copy so much in the past so I’m chuffed I’ve established this and we’re seeing positive results.

Proofing began for a big project. I’m pretty sure I spoke about this project before in my Weeknotes. It’s the no.1 thing our roadmap and we’re starting to ship it!

Briefing for another big project. Some of our product can feel complex and it’s my job to simplify that and make it easy for users to understand. We had a kick off for “Selecting a new plan”. It sounds simple, yet a lot of work will go into making it so.

All team planning for Q3. A full day of our whole product team looking back on Q2 and sharing objectives and the roadmap for Q3.

Managing up in my skip meeting. I shared how my Q2 goals have gone. The feedback was, “Good, great, excellent.” I worked damned hard. I’m proud that’s so positively recognised.

Quite a lot of meetings. Leading to broken and very little focus time. This week’s in danger of looking similar and there are some chunky tasks I need proper head-down time for. I need to carve time out for that somehow.

Prioritising social calls. In a week I was struggling to fit things in it would have been easy to skip these. I knew connecting with my team and having fun would temper the manic-ness of my diary. I went to both our weekly Coffee and a Chat meeting, and a remote social. We played Gartic Phone. If you haven’t played it you should. It’s a brilliant stress buster.
