Weeknotes 27 September, 2024

So much has happened this week, including working from two countries and three different places. Here’s a pinch of my progress…

Puzzling through upgrade content. I mentioned this last week – i’m still working on it. I’m struggling to get info on what product B adds to product A and how that’s of value to users. Without that, the copy is just filler – and no one wants (or needs) that.

Revising content guidance. Last quarter my team overhauled our content design wiki. This sprint we’ve been tweaking it with concrete examples in do and don’t format. It’s these that illustrate how to get it right, after all. We’re under no illusion that folks sit and read content guidance word for word, as much as we’d love that.

Writing content for 2 different user groups. The same product, different audiences. I changed just a few key words in the copy. Huge changes aren’t always needed, sometimes it’s the detail that matters.

Checking in on user feedback. Via our mobile and online reviews, notifications from customer support.

Creating a confidence score survey for designers and product managers. I’m keen to know how easy they find it to write copy for content things e.g. modal screens, error or warning messages. I’ll use the survey results to spot how I can better support the team and then run the survey quarterly.

Kicking off a content audit. Our Head of Design and I started this last week to a degree. While I had to move the meeting to Monday, the plan is to identify the content we want to audit first. Then, we’ll start the process of evaluating it.
