Weeknotes 11 October, 2024

I’ve had a narrow-ish focus this week which I’ve enjoyed. It’s meant I could get into deep focus mode.

Started to analyse results of a confidence score survey. I sent this out at the beginning of the week and a few responses are in. It’s so interesting to see how folks are getting on with UX Writing. I’ve structured the survey in a way that will help me identify what people find harder to write. Then, I can then help create some practical training to help them feel more confident. That’s the plan, anyhow.

Mentoring session #2 “Mentoring” feels a lofty term for how this is shaping up. I’m meeting with a colleague every 2 weeks. We’re sharing how we (or would) tackle certain management tasks. I don’t see this as me mentoring my colleague, rather us mentoring each other.

Content auditing. When I said I had a narrow-ish focus this week this was it. I’ve been scrutinising content for lots of different user journeys and different products. I’m looking at how to improve this content. I’m building a terminology library as I go, honing in on discrepancies and proposals to align them.

Navigating “No”. In particular, colleagues saying no to quick copy fixes that would take seconds to do. It’s faster doing this while working on the content now. Otherwise, you risk they’ll necer happen. You also break concentration of other work further down the line to go back into the same content again. (I’m certain this becomes a financial cost as well as effort). I’ve pushed back. It’s so easy to bump copy tweaks off with “not now” and I’m determined to stop the culture of doing so.

  1. […] week has been quite similar to last week – lots of content auditing. Lots of great collaboration […]
