I’ve had such a great week this week. It’s been packed. It’s also been full of really rich things like collaborating with my team in person, eating well, and walking more.
I’ve also been sleeping well. After being sick a couple of weeks ago, I prioritised rest – for a whole week. I’ve also been actively “slowing down” in my personal life. I love getting things done and, although tricky for me to admit, I can overload myself. I thrive when I’m busy. But being too busy can be damaging. This is where my sense of “slowing down” originated from. It’s about managing stress.
Here are a few other things I’ve been prioritising:
- Protein. Yes, it’s a social-media band wagon. Though, as a vegetarian, getting enough protein is crucial. I’ve gone from thinking, “I ought to increase my protein” to protein becoming the ingredient I build every meal around. Long may this continue… I know my diet can slip.
- Learning. For example, while walking to a co-working space yesterday, I listened to A Monk’s Guide to Happiness. I recommend it. “Our happiness and our problems depend on our state of mind”, shares author Gelong Thubten. He couldn’t be more right.
- Preparation. Readying myself for work and the week ahead with food planning. Boring, but practical alert: I batch cooked a lot of protein-packed meals and froze them. With working less from home, ready-to-go, nutritious lunches have been a life-saver.
- Making more of an effort for myself. In what I wear, looking after my skin, and actually bothering to put make up on.
As a side note, there have been little moments over the last few months where I’ve recognised I’m happy. I know the things I’ve listed here are all contributing to this. This is why I’ve made a point of writing them down and letting them take over my Weeknotes. It’s to serve as a reminder.
Things are good, yet life throws curveballs. This record of things will help when those inevitable times hit.
