Weeknotes 28 March, 2025

I’ve been getting back into the swing of things after a couple of weeks off. Monday was a bit tricky – I felt quite discombobulated. It could have been jet lag, but for the first time ever I’d stayed up and only went to bed at a time I would in the UK. That’s what you’re supposed to do, right? Stay up until a normal bed time in the time zone you’ve arrived in, I think.

Tuesday was similar and I still felt a bit, well, weird. By Wednesday I’d bounced back and got my groove back. Here are some of the things I tackled this week while getting back up to speed.

Reviewing a competency framework for Content Design. We have one for or our Design and Research team, which encompasses Content Design. (We more commonly call it a Skills Matrix).

While I’ve been away, My team has taken the comp framework and made it more specific to Content Design. They’ve done an awesome job. It’s a time-consuming exercise creating a comp framework. It takes eagle eyes and a heap of patience.

Now we have this CD framework, we need to merge it back into the main framework. Content Design is part of Design. And, to me, it’s important not to separate ourselves as it can send subliminal messages we do not want to convey.

Proofing a mini prototype. This was a nice and easy task to come back to. A small design file, not a heap of stuff to tweak. Sweet!

Ticking along with audits. In the name of continual content improvement, I’m doing regular audits of our software’s features. This week I spent time on something that’s recently gone live. I’m pleased to see all is looking as expected. It’s definitely not always the case.
