I’m sure I’ve mentioned it’s been a tough year for me personally. Lots of family changes and a tough time for us all. That aside, it’s been a great year for me professionally. With that, I’m going to take a look at how the year has gone. Things that stand out to me; the good, the challenging – everything.
I’ve enriched my soft skills
Empathy, handling difficult conversations, reflecting, active listening. These are the things I’ve dedicated to enhancing. I don’t think you can do too much of this and active listening is one I’m going to spend more time on in the new year. Working on these skills has meant I’ve put them into practice more and wth intention.
I delivered 2 high profile projects
Along with a team of epic people, we’ve crafted a payments solution and an AI agent. It goes without saying that user trust is paramount. So, when it comes to making payments every tiny detail matters. I’ve made sure my eyes have been on every nook and cranny in this project. I’ve ironed out any jargon so the copy is crystal clear. And I’ve done the same with our AI agent so it’s easy for people to use, and we save them time.
Following a process isn’t everything
Progress can be more important. While one of the high profile projects lacked in process, it’s moving forward well.
I now know I need to rest more
Like many of us, there are many sides to me. I’m driven and like to get things done. Yet, sometimes this part of me doesn’t allow much rest. Work, exercise, adventure. I love these things. I’m adding rest into my list of loves. Well, I’m trying. I’m doing more of and discovering that rest doesn’t mean just one thing. There are many kinds. And that’s what I’m exploring.
I’m proud of the impact our content team are making
We had a ‘highlights and achievements’ session on Monday (what a great way to start the week). I mentioned how grateful I am that our designers always listening and always see the value in good copy. They said how much they learn from the 2 of us, and that they can see the difference in their own writing.
The team also asked us to run workshops doubling-down on common content patterns. They asked for more on error messages. More on tooltips. I love that we’re helping others learn and that they’re asking for what they want. This will be a fun project to work in in the New Year. Until then, take it easy and enjoy the festivities.
