This week got off to a bit of a bumpy start. I was staring down a massive to-do list and hit that familiar wall of not knowing quite where to begin. Instead of overthinking it, I picked one thing, started moving it forward, and let the momentum carry me through. By Friday, what started as an overwhelming week transformed into one full of massive wins.
Here are three things from the last few days:
1. Real gains with Accessibility Champions
The Accessibility Champions group I initiated recently held its second meeting. Seeing the cross-team engagement has been incredibly rewarding. We spent time discussing how to share our focus with the wider business early on. The highlight? An exploration into some software optimisations. This saw accessibility jump from an 83% score to nearly 100%. It felt like an absolute textbook example of low-effort, massive gain. We still need to identify how long it would take to turn the concept into reality.
We also talked about WCAG guidance. This sparked a lot of thoughts around the situational and temporary nature of accessibility needs. On a personal note, I forgot my glasses this week and struggled. My astigmatism means bumping up font size doesn’t solve blurriness. It reinforced the need for WCAG’s self-described “discernible text”.
2. Designing psychological safety
I attended a workshop on psychological safety this week, and it was exceptional. It offered practical tips on identifying what works and what doesn’t within team dynamics. The core takeaway for me was learning about the internal and external factors that can soothe or spike your experience. And that with the right combination you unlock genuine flow and happiness at work.
3. Shifting from “more with less” to working smarter
I’m actively looking at ways to optimise my own administrative workload. I don’t mean forcing corporate “do more with less” productivity hacks. Instead, finding smarter ways to protect my time.
For example, this week, I joined a swift 30-minute webinar to see how to automate meeting admin and note-taking. I’ve since implemented something similar for the Accessibility Champions meetings. It lifts the administrative burden and ensures documentation of key topics, actions, and decisions. Even writing these very weeknotes is an experiment in workflow efficiency. I dictated my thoughts on the walk home from a co-working space. I then used AI to transcribe – what might take me an hour, took seconds. Next, I tidied up my dictation and turned it into what you’re reading now.
A proud week of momentum, and I’m glad I paused to notice it.
