Weeknotes 24 July, 2026

This week got off to a bumpy start. I had Monday off, and the long weekend didn’t go to plan, and also included some sad news. I’m pleased to say the week improved. Three principles that I’ve come to think of have helped. In no order of priority, they are:

1. Assume positive intent.
2. One day at a time.
3. Treat others as you want to be treated.

Simple, but I’m finding them effective and easy to remember.

Two more reflections for the week are:

It’s okay to get things wrong. A piece of work became over-complex this week. Part of that was context switching and fitting something in that I didn’t have time for. The result was that the fixes took longer than they needed. The silver lining: we recognised this and have already established a new way of working.

It can take time to establish momentum. Our accessibility champions group is starting to share the meaningful work they’re doing. Things like how do we ethically find research participants. And what does compliance look like in this sensitive area? We’ve also reviewed one high-impact part of the product. A massive plus: some of the easy-ish fixes we found will benefit the whole product, not only the part we audited. Stepping back, we’ve only had 3 meets, so that’s pretty good progress.
