This week felt heavy and slow. Sluggish progress is still progress. Yet I’ve reached the end of the week feeling tired and unsure of what I’ve achieved. I’m putting this down to the world we live in skewing my perspective. From the contagious, yet counterintuitive culture of busyness. To the need to be productive that feels like being on a hamster wheel. BUT – slower weeks are valuable. Here’s why…
It’s given me time to reflect on how we’re prioritising work and how we can improve this. I’ve noticed an increase in the number of initiatives my team has committed to in Q1 and Q2. Originally I thought the increase was 33.33%, yet it’s closer to 13%. Still, I’ve noticed I’m measuring this, which I wasn’t before. See – progress!
I’m also documenting what work happens – how it takes shape – for each initiative. For example, did the delivery team draft the content and then the content team review it? Was it the other way around? I hope that at our next quarterly planning, this helps us with a better understanding of “effort”. We also gain a better understanding of where to allocate content design support and where not to. Progress, again.
I’m pondering gaps and opportunities in the support we offer delivery teams. This is laddering up to a bigger strategic piece my line manager is leading. The big caveat here is that we already do a lot, so capacity is somewhat limited. That doesn’t mean we can’t evolve, and that’s the bit I’m exploring.
