Fast and slow, all at once. Some weeks move at two speeds, and this was one of them. Thirty-two accessibility tickets shifted forward, but the bit worth noting isn’t the number – it’s what I learned in getting there. I’d planned to delegate a good chunk of them to delivery teams. Yet, once I sat with the work, it became clear that most of it needed holistic input rather than a straightforward handoff. That’s a useful distinction to hold onto. Not everything that looks delegable actually is. And knowing the difference before you commit people’s time feels like the more valuable skill
I also started looking at a new piece of work through a content strategy lens – early days, but it’s in good shape. Rather than jumping straight into a review, I built out a notepad of terminology and competitor language first. It’s a small habit, but one I want to keep: grounding decisions in evidence rather than opinion. And leaving a trail so the thinking is visible later, not just the outcome.
Alongside that, I’ve been thinking about how to coach avoiding passive voice in a way that actually lands. Not a grammar lecture, but something people can recognise in their own writing and go, ah, that’s what that is, I know how to fix it. There’s a place for passive voice, of course. My goal is recognition over rules. Once someone can spot it, choosing the active voice stops being an instruction and starts being a choice they make on purpose.
Manager reviews are done too, which always makes for a good moment to pause and think about growth – theirs and mine.
And then there was Lead With Tempo. The last one, which stings a bit, because it’s been a genuinely brilliant conference over the years. Yesterday’s talks were the kind that remind you you’re not imagining the shifts happening in this industry. Everyone else is feeling them too, which is comforting even when the shifts themselves are hard.
I’m finishing this week low on energy, but full of gratitude. My work gives me a great mix. The granular details (tickets, terminology, tone). And the macro view (leadership, learning, and an evolving industry). Next week, I’ll dive headfirst back into my tickets. But first, time to recharge.
